I am frequently asked to play this song at shows. It’s funny to me, that this of all songs has caught on, if it can be called that, as it is quite a bit removed from what I’m doing now, and eve the majority of what I was doing at the time of the song. Never the less, I’ve found an MP3 of it. Please enjoy this recording of the song from 2006 as an apology from me for never playing it at shows.

I have figured out how to record audio to my phone. We did three songs, this Manipulator Alligator cover being one of them. All first takes, live recorded. I had forgotten about the songs until Ryan sent me this rough mix of some GNAGM style additions.

Alternate master of Twenty Two now available, for FREE

http://dobywatson.bandcamp.com/album/twenty-two-fats2-master

Twenty Two (futureappletree studio too master)

As part of another installment of a promised string of uploads, I am now offering an alternate master of my album Twenty Two for free.

This version of the album is essentially the same, except that it was beautifully mastered to tape by Patrick Stolley at futureappletree studio too in Davenport, Iowa - whereas the version released was digitally mastered by Ross Brown, who recorded, mixed and produced the album. For various reasons, none of them good, I chose not to release the tape master at the time.

I chose to use a slightly different version (a different master is hardly that different, though) in an effort to avoid slighting anyone who may have purchased this album from me. I also feel that this master sounds very nice - hopefully you will, too.

I wish to cause no harm or ill will to anyone, however, some of you may be aware that during my tenure on Orchid Collective, there was talk of orders not being received. I indeed received complaints, but made little to no effort to do much about it. This is a tricky accusation to handle, to be honest. I did not nor do I run Orchid Collective, however, the last thing I want to do is discourage anyone, or say anything negative about Orchid Collective - I love them, but I also love anyone and everyone who has taken an interest in my music, and I owe it to them to deliver and be gracious and respectful.

Regardless of if the accusations are true or not, I feel that I have to take them seriously, and should have done something a while ago. I have decided the best way to handle it at this point is to make my releases from that time period available for free - albeit hopefully in slightly different forms whenever possible.

I am waiting to see if I can come up with alternate masters or bonus tracks for both “Nine Songs” and “Guitar Duets”. Once I figure that out, they will be available for free as well. So, please, download away!

"Serenades For An Abortion" now available

This is the first of what will be many older or previously unreleased works of mine uploaded to bandcamp.

http://dobywatson.bandcamp.com/album/serenades-for-an-abortion

Serenades For An Abortion

In 2005 I created this album by using some garbage and a microphone as instruments and Windows Sound Recorder as an “editing” tool.

I decided not to share this particular album at the time because I felt it would give the impression that I am pro-life/opposed to abortion - which of course is far from the truth. I did however share it with friends and family, resulting in a surprising amount of positive feedback and encouragement. I feel that with the right frame of mind, my intentions will be understood, and that perhaps even if not, this can be enjoyed as an example of a side of my creative output that is rarely shared or documented.

In that spirit of that encouragement a handful of years ago, I have made this short album available. You can either stream it for free, or download it for a donation of $1 or more.

Please keep checking in to this site and my bandcamp. I will be posting as much completed material as I can find. Much of it falling in line with what is more “typical” or expected of my output.

February Shows

I am playing three shows in February.
